#ThrowbackThursday: The Playstation One Glory Days

#ThrowbackThursday: The Playstation One Glory Days

For this week’s #ThrowbackThursday, I decided to go back to my earliest exposure of good music. Eight years old, just a boy with a Playstation, and a dream to collect all the letters of S.K.A.T.E before the time ran out. “Sorry mom, no more Cher albums in the car, we’re gonna listen to this stuff now”.

1. Dead Kennedy’s – Police Truck

Nothing says Punk Rock and skateboarding like the Dead Kennedy’s on “Police Truck“. Just hearing that echoing guitar takes me back to the days spent glued to a TV screen with a Playstation controller in hand. And ride, ride how we ride.

2. New Girl – Suicide Machines

This song was probably my first introduction to the world of the Ska genre. With plinky guitars, funky fast-paced bass lines and an up-beat synth part, the only thing missing off this is the rolling of skateboard wheels in the background.

3. Suicidal Tendencies – Cyco Vision

Scratchy vocals and mindless screaming – this song rocks hard.  It doesn’t matter what you say, bullshit! It only matters what you do, bullshit!  I blame this song for all the times I got pissed and sent my controller crashing into the wall.

4. Primus – Jerry Was a Race Car Driver

Damn Les Claypool how you play bass so well?  I probably didn’t appreciate this song as much as I should have back then but I’m sure glad I was introduced to it. What the hell is he saying?

5. Superman – Goldfinger

I had to save the best for last.  This song will undoubtedly make me smile every time I hear it for the rest of my life.  Get up get up get up get upppp!
